Birdsong Cottages, Modimolle

Set in the scenic Waterberg Mountains lies the small Bushveld town of Modimolle (previously named Nylstroom). The Sotho name Modimolle refers to the mountain, meaning the ‘God(s) have eaten.’

The imposing Kranskop Mountain that rises above the surrounding landscape is a natural beacon on the N1 Highway that runs between Pretoria and Polokwane en route to the Kruger National Park. This area is well known for its abundant plants and indigenous trees, prolific birdlife and free roving game. Nature and adventure enthusiasts also enjoy spending time hiking, game viewing and other outdoor activities. The bustling town of Modimolle boasts several historic venues and monuments for those who enjoy South Africa’s rich heritage.

Here, in the heart of the Bushveld on a 32-hectare farm, are Birdsong Cottages, a series of self- catering cottages 14 kilometres outside the town on the R101. At Birdsong, guests wanting to escape city life bustle can choose between budget, standard and luxury cottage units. Nestled in the bush, Birdsong Cottages get their name from the plentiful birdlife that flock to the Nylsvley Nature Reserve, a 30-minute drive away.

Weddings

If you have dreamt of an intimate wedding in the bush under African skies, consider what Birdsong cottages have on offer. Lush private gardens surround the walkway to the romantic quaint thatched chapel. The 60-seater chapel has a large window overlooking the valley where the bride and groom exchange their views. If an African outdoor ‘I do’ is more your style, why not have your special ceremony in the bushveld surrounding the pool area? Do not be surprised if some free roaming small game arrives as unexpected wedding guests!

The ‘Uitkyk’ serves as a lovely open-air reception venue with ample parking for guests. Alternatively, you can opt to have the banquet on the spacious lawns of the pool area encircled by African bush. We are happy to set the tables and create a delicious feast menu to enhance your wedding festivities.

The brand new “Koi Pond” reception venue is a 60 seater venue ideal for indoor wedding receptions, events, functions, launches, family reunions and more. The venue boasts a magnificent indoor koi pond which is the main feature of the hall, as well as a unique bar and serving counter, with a beautifully decorated seating area for guests to enjoy their meal. The recent addition of the Edwin Cameron Boma at Birdsong Cottages is the perfect setting for outdoor wedding receptions, conference breakaways and teambuildings, family and group get-togethers and functions. It is also ideal for romantic evenings for two in the heart of the bushveld with the fire glowing and the starry sky up above.

No wedding is complete without photographs to capture your memories. At Birdsong, the lovely gardens, Bushveld backdrops and charming hidden corners in the garden offer plenty of photographic opportunities.

Honeymoon Suites and Accommodation for your wedding guests:

The Flycatcher Villa on the farm serves as the honeymoon suite for the newlyweds, who will enjoy its beautifully decorated interior, antique décor and romantic in-room feature bath. Choose from any of Flycatcher’s three luxurious rooms with private entrance and en suite bathroom.

Extend the wedding day into a weekend celebration by inviting your guests to enjoy a night or two at one of the other self-catering cottages. In total, the cottages at Birdsong are able to accommodate up to 32 guests.

Conferencing

Birdsong Cottages offer a peaceful venue in a bush setting for small conferences or business workshops.

Conference organisers can opt for day conference and overnight packages. The following venues can be used for these events:

• The thatched Chapel can seat 60 delegates.

• The “Koi Pond” reception venue seating 60 delegates.

• Villa Dining Room can convert to a cosy conference or workshop space for 12 delegates.

• The Uitkyk and Edwin Cameron Boma are the perfect venues for outdoor year end functions, banquets and parties.
